JOB SUMMARY:
An experienced registered nurse who can independently
oversee the daily operation of the unit. Demonstrates leadership
qualities as well as advanced knowledge in nursing practice.
Demonstrates independent judgment and critical thinking skills in
overseeing the delivery of patient care. Possesses the ability to
act decisively under general administrative supervision.
Demonstrates advanced clinical competence.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provides in depth custodial and technical nursing care to
(adult/pediatric) patients based on nursing assessments and diagnoses
and the patient's physical, mental and emotional needs, as well as on
physician's medical care plans.
Assesses patient needs and develops the plan of care based on collection
of data, both subjective and objective and observation of patients
clinical status.
Initiates and administers therapeutic interventions, such as
medications, IV therapy, oxygen therapy, etc., under the parameters of
the Florida Nurse Practice Act and in adherence with the Policies and
Procedures of Bethesda Memorial Hospital.
Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per nursing standards as
well as assisting physicians with procedures.
Directly and indirectly, through diagnostic devices, skillfully
observes, evaluates and records the patients' clinical conditions and
critical events in the patient's hospital stay, per nursing standards,
through written or electronic documentation.
Recognizes, identifies and interprets emergency situations and initiates
appropriate action.
Evaluates patient response to the plan of care and achievement of
individualized mutually agreed upon goals; and revises and updates the
plan as necessary.
Interprets plan of care to patient's significant others, as well as
conducting formal and informal teaching sessions on disease entities,
therapeutic regimes and wellness concepts.
Collaborates with other members of the health care team and directly and
indirectly supervises the care rendered by staff.
Coordinates the clinical activities within a specific unit for an
assigned shift.
Makes patient care assignments based on identified nursing needs of each
patient, the medical regimen and the qualifications and experience of
nursing staff members.
Makes patient rounds as indicated per nursing unit and patient status to
identify problems and needs.
Acts as resource person for information and organization, to peers,
subordinates and other departments with knowledge of available
resources.
Provides input into staff performance evaluations, as requested by
noting educational, competency and performance achievements and
deficits.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of an approved School of Nursing with a minimum of 4 years experience. Bachelor's degree
preferred.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Ability to constructively criticize and positively reinforce students,
nurses and technicians in a teaching situation. Ability to relate
cooperatively and constructively with employees at all levels.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
Instructor in Pediatric Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation, Basic Life
Support, Advanced Life Support. Certification in area of specialty
preferred.
